Medicaid is the United States health program for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and resources.
Medicaid is a joint federal-state program that provides health coverage or nursing home coverage to certain categories of low-asset individuals, including children, pregnant women, parents of eligible children, people with disabilities and elderly needing nursing home care.
To be eligible, you must be unemployed or meet a certain criteria of income. They take into account the amoun tof dependents you have as well. For pregnant women, Medicaid is more lenient because they aim to make sure maternal health and the health of the newborn child is protected.
The benefits are to provide the indigent population with medical care, usually with none or very little co-pay. Every state also has their own name for their Medicaid program. In AZ, it is AHCCCS, OR, Oregon Health Plan, CA, Medi-Cal, just to name a few.
