1. What are some major ethical considerations that need to be addressed when using gestalt therapy approach?

Gestalt therapy is somewhat unconventional in terms of having specific ethical codes and principles, but argues that the principles are theoretically incorporated into the field. There is no right” or wrong” in and of itself, but certain values are considered “good, and so on. But these values are within the client (an ethical issue concerning autonomy), so the client is believed to be responsible to make choices about her or his own values: “The valid ethical stance in Gestalt therapy is based on the situation in which the interaction takes place. All persons are responsible for themselves in that interaction and for the choices made in the existential moment” (Korb, Gorrel, and Van de Riet, p. 21, http://www.afn.org/~gestalt/ethics.htm).

What values are “good” values for the therapists? Ethical issues arise in Gestalt therapy in areas, including the inappropriate selection of clients; inappropriate use of Gestalt techniques,; misuse and abuse of Gestalt techniques; and the professional’s personal sense of ethical behavior (http://www.eric.ed.gov/ERICDocs/data/ericdocs2sql/content_storage_01/0000019b/80/15/f3/3e.pdf).
