Task:

Scenario 11: Drug and alcohol education

You are a worker who works in the provision of drug and alcohol education in schools. The program involves inviting drug and alcohol workers to work with young people to build skills in how to minimize potential drug and alcohol
related harm in their lives. The young people enjoy the program immensely however whether this program is having any long term impact in changing behaviour, knowledge and skills remains unclear.

Task 1

Write an introduction including research aims , research questions, and justification of the research (statement of significance)

What do you want to know, prove, demonstrate, analyse, test, investigate or examine in your research? List your project aims in a logical sequence.

For example: The aim of this project is to:

a) Provide an outline of a research proposal

b) Enable a prospective student to prepare a research proposals

Statement of significance:

Why is this research important? What do you expect it will deliver? What are the expected outcomes? Establish the importance of your project by highlighting its originality or why it is worth pursuing. Highlight the benefits, positive expected outcomes or innovative applications of knowledge for the social work profession.

Task 2

Write METHODOLOGY (including Methods, Data analysis plan)

This part may include:

Demonstration of the suitability of your research design for your proposed research

Include your epistemological approach and methodology (quantitative/qualitative/mixed methods)

What methods will you use to address your research problem?

Describe Sampling, Data collection techniques, data analysis plan.

Task 3

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Address the potential ethical issues that may raise in your research.

Task 4

Design Data collection tools (Interview schedule/ Questionnaires,…)

Research instruments should be designed with reference to: Sarantakos, S 2013, Social research, 4th edn, Palgrave Macmillan, New York, Ch. 11 or 12. Include as an appendix a draft of any surveys or interview questions you will use. Text in appendices will not contribute to the overall document word count.
