1. What impact or influence have the characteristics of the health care delivery system had on health behaviors of the populations?

Characteristic of the system is high on cost, unequal in access, and average in outcomes. Access is the ability of an individual to obtain health care services when needed, which is limited to a growing number of Americans who cannot afford health insurance.

These characteristics impact the health behaviors of the populations mostly in a negative way, at least for the more vulnerable segment of the system, which are the uninsured who cannot afford health care insurance and therefore have unequal access to services. This increases disease and drives the cost even higher. These vulnerable populations often use the emergency services in emergency situations, and often when the disease is in a more advanced stage or the person’s health has deteriorated more than if she or he has equal access to health care services. However, the average outcomes impact all people’s health negatively, for the obvious reasons.

The US healthcare delivery system is technology-driven and focuses on acute care. Technology drives up the cost, although it has had successful interventions, but …
