Your clinical scenario For coursework 1 You are a community based occupational therapist working for a large primary care trust, in a GP surgery. For a number of years you have been aware that a large number of adults visit the surgery with low back pain. No-one within the multidisciplinary team addresses this service user need, in terms of offering intervention, support, guidance and education. You therefore, decide to explore the possibility of developing a new multidisciplinary service for adults with low back pain. You have done some preliminary searching and have found an NHS fact sheet on back pain http://www.nhs.uk/news/2014/03March/Pages/Back-pain-leading-cause-of-disability-study-finds.aspx This stimulates your interest further into exploring this potential avenue for service development. You need to present a business case for the service to be funded. To support the development of your business case, you need to explore the evidence base for intervention (which may include occupational therapy) with adults with low back pain.
