The danger of cigarette smoking began with an argument in which the behavior of smoking cigarettes despite its known health habits was primarily continued because of exposure to television. Two reasons offered were that:

(1) nearly everyone owned a television, and thus television was the tool in which more persons learned of cigarette smoking, and (2) they were emulating smokers in the television series.
