Both financial and patient care considerations can be powerful rationales for change. However, one should never compromise patient care for profit.

As a case in point, let’s say a hospital budget was cut, then the new budget would be a powerful rationale for organizational change, and indeed one of necessity. The hospital would have to decide what programs to keep and perhaps cut others according to priority of need. However, patient care …
