Briefly, I summarized the article, with my comments bracketed for easy referencing. Many opponents (and I am also somewhat skeptical) whether human beings use hormones like animals do for defense and sex responses i.e. like when female cats are in heat and the male cats respond instinctively, but there appears to be some empirical evidence to support this premise. The article does not seem very well organized as it jumps around between studies and brings in conclusions from various people.

The article, Lesbians’ brains respond differently from those of straight women, discusses a study by Savic at the Stockholm Brain Institute that suggest a biological basis for sexual orientation and that “sexual orientation may very well have a different basis between men and women … this is not just a mirror image situation” (Sandra Witelson)

In a previous study by the same researchers, the researcher demonstrated that gay men showed their brain response to hormones was similar to that of heterosexual women.”

The researchers, in the recent study, used a sample of 12 healthy, unmedicated, right-handed and HIV-negative individuals. The 12 participants were assigned to 3 groups. (This is a very small sample size). Specifically, the participants sniffed chemicals derived from male and female sex hormones. …
