- MOCK GUARDIANSHIP TRIAL:
- The student will participate in a mock guardianship case in which each student will research the role assigned to them and portray that discipline in a mock guardianship hearing.
- STUDENTS WILL PREPARE A ONE PARAGRAPH “TESTIMONY” REPRESENTING THEIR ROLE AND PRESENT THAT IN WRITING TO THE “JUDGE” FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.
- STUDENTS will enact the actual “MOCK TRIAL” in class.
- Students will discuss the process and the needs of the elderly.
- The focus of this assignment is to examine how physical and mental incapacities are documented for court hearings.
- Additionally the student will examine resources that assist in maintaining independence for older adults. This case will also introduce students to the process that determines mental competency.
Maximum grade: 20 points will be awarded for successful completion of this assignment. Points will be awarded for preparation of role and class participation. Very informal discussion can help you brain storm together. Ask yourself what would the law enforcement officer do in this case or what would the nurse do etc… and portray your role as they may act in practice! Someone can be the judge, court reporter, court investigator and bailiff who assist the judge in making the court ruling or decision! It is really fun!
Due Date: To be announced! Plan tentatively for the week of Feb. 29-March 2 of 2016.
