Why do you think Titchener believed structuralism was the way to go at that time?
Wilhelm Wundt taught Edward Bradford Titchener in the early 19th century. Structuralism psychology focused on introspection and scientific experimentation; what the brain is (i.e. its content or construction) in its conscious mental states; while functionalism explored what the brain actually does.
